Fun Winter Activities | Holiday Special
The colder months always bring along so many wonderful winter activities. You and your family can enjoy them in a vast variety of ways. Whether it’s getting out on the slopes for skiing or snowboarding, or staying inside for some spiked hot chocolate and game night, you’re sure to have fun. Some of these activities can only be done in colder climates that experience substantial snowfall. Even if you don’t live somewhere that snows annually, you can still appreciate the season indoors. Here’s some wonderful winter activities to get you started!
One of the most fun winter activities for those that enjoy physical winter activity is to go skiing or snowboarding. It’s great to enjoy with families, couples, or just solo. Try heading to a ski resort you’ve never been to previously. The slopes are always an exhilarating experience yet relaxing at the same time. Enjoy the scenery on the ride to the top of the mountain, as you breathe in the fresh mountain air. This also happens to be a great workout as well! After you’re finished with your outdoor festivities, head inside the lodge to warm up. Treat yourself to a hot chocolate, coffee or tea curled up next to a fireplace. Or why not enjoy an apres ski with a spiked beverage…or two. Unwind in the resort spa to get out those knots out with a deep tissue massage.
A timeless reminder of a childhood spent in the snow. You don’t have to be an expert for this activity. Sledding is sheer joy, the thrill of racing down a snow-covered hill is a feeling that never leaves you. Take your significant other or kids out to the local sledding hill the first time it snows and make some amazing memories.
The words “winter” and “picnic” don’t usually go hand in hand. But this doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy it! Head out with some of your favorite people, some fluffy warm blankets and thermoses full of soup and hot drinks.
Blowing ice bubbles
If this is something you’ve never done before then it is a must try this winter season. This is an especially perfect activity for young children. All you need is some bubbles and the temperature needs to be 32 degrees or below. Watch as the bubbles freeze over in spectacular patterns. You can also try adding a few drops of food coloring for added effect!
Have a snowman building contest
Making a snowman with your kids is probably a favorite winter activity memory they will treasure for years to come. This tried and tested fun winter activity will surely bring a smile to your faces- and maybe the snowman too! If you are anything like us, your snowman building contest will surely turn into a riveting snowball fight.
The best snowball fights are the ones that you don’t prepare for. The unexpected cold shock you feel as the freezing snow hits your back is sure to stir up old memories of childhood snowball fights.
Make Snow Paint!
This is simply using nature as your canvas. Let your creative juices flow, without worrying about the mess afterward. All you’ll need for this is some spray bottles, food coloring, water, and voila! You have your very own art studio in your own backyard.
Head to the great outdoors and take in everything nature has to offer this time of year. This winter activity is not for the faint of heart. You will need a lot of gear that you wouldn’t use for summer camping, so be sure to come prepared. You will need a winter sleeping bag, lots of warm layers, a sturdy tent built to brace the harsh elements, and waterproof boots. Also look for a campsite that has running water nearby so you don’t have to melt it, and accessible firewood.
Start up those campfires and gather your friends and family. Being around a blazing fire toasting marshmallows is a simple delight of life. You don’t have to take just marshmallows to an open flame, get creative and spice things up. Try grilled cheese, fruit, or even muffins. The sky truly is the limit.
Here’s an activity that everyone can enjoy, even if you do not live somewhere that it snows often. There is just something so wonderful about a freshly baked batch of cookies, and the delicious scent it sends throughout the home. The best part of this winter activity is that you get to have a treat afterward. For those of you that aren’t the best bakers, opt for break and bake or other premade doughs so your cookies don’t have to be made from scratch.
This winter activity is simple: curl up in bed or your favorite nook with a pair of your favorite socks, a cup of coffee, and a great novel. There’s nothing better than being warm and comfy on a chilly winter day.
Cuddle up with your significant other on the couch, make some popcorn and hot chocolate, and grab all the comforters in the house to indulge in a couch-potato kind of afternoon. Have a bunch of your most-loved movies ready to go, or opt for one you’ve never seen before. Movie marathons create a perfect winter activity atmosphere for staying cozy indoors.
Create an ultimate at-home spa day
There’s nothing more tranquil than sitting in the bath watching the snowfall outside. It makes you feel all warm and cozy. Create your very own ultimate at-home spa day, complete with a soothing soak in the tub, followed by a manicure and pedicure, a face mask, and a warm cup of cocoa. Top it off with fuzzy slippers and a huge bathrobe. You can also put on some spa music, and read a book, while you re-energize your mind and body from the comfort of your own home.
